A long time ago, Google made some smart glasses called Google Glass. A lot of people thought they were strange. Now, Google is trying again with brand new smart glasses that are all about their smart helper, named Gemini. Google just announced that new glasses, made with help from cool glasses companies, will come out in 2026. They are in a race with other big tech companies like Apple and Meta to make the best glasses.
Two Kinds of Glasses
The Talking Glasses
These look like normal, lightweight glasses. They don’t have screens you look at. Instead, they have tiny cameras and microphones. You can talk to Gemini, ask it questions about what you see, and it will talk back to help you remember things.
The Showing Glasses
These glasses have special lenses that can add helpful information to what you see in the real world. For example, they could show you arrows on the street to help you walk somewhere, or translate words right in front of you. Google says the glasses should fit into your life easily and look stylish, so you’ll actually want to wear them.
Finally, they showed “Project Aura,” which is a fancy, high-end pair of connected glasses. These are for doing things like watching a recipe video that floats in the air while you cook, or seeing repair instructions attached to the thing you’re fixing. Here is a preview video.
